Do you have the fear dying?
My wife works at the country waffle in Lindsay. Her name is Luana. When she works there in the morning I eat breakfast there. One day a man set down with me at my table and admits he's afraid of dying. admits he is terrified of dying. He said "I have a wonderful family life. I exercise, all those little things." Still, he laments he is constantly pushing against darker thoughts, especially related to mortality. He said, "Death is all I think about. There is not a day or really an hour that goes by that I don't think about death." A classic case of thanatophobia!
So let me share with you, what I shared with him.
What do you think is the most impressive memorial in Washington, D.C.? Our forefathers knew people quickly forget history, so they erected numerous monuments and statues to remind us of the price that was paid for our freedom.
Which is the most impressive to you? The towering Washington Monument? The stately Jefferson or Lincoln memorials?
Philippians 4:8 “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” { The New Living Translation }
We can become consumed by thoughts of bitterness, and focus on the negative. Be careful because the way we think will eventually come out through our actions.
Jesus calls us to be “Peacemakers.” Matt. 5:9 “Blessed are peacemakers.” He’s talking about the person that is slow to speak and quick to listen, with a gentle spirit. They exemplify the fruit of the Spirit in their life. They have great discernment. They just walk into a room and it changes.
Why I am a Christian?
"WHY ARE YOU a Christian?" asked a friend a long time ago. I can remember stumbling over his question because at that time in my life, I had never given it much thought. When pressed for an answer I said things like: "My father was a minister, my family always goes to church, my brothers and my sister were all baptized by my dad."
